In today's Website Marketing Newsletter...
Is Affiliate Marketing
Dying?
I've earned a nice 'stay home living' thanks in part to
affiliate marketing and I've helped countless people do the
same. Over the last 15 years online, I've witnessed affiliate
marketing go through a lot of changes.
But the one question I still get all
the time is this... is it still possible for a newcomer to earn
serious income with affiliate marketing? Or is affiliate
marketing dying a slow death? Read today's gazette and find out.
But first, take a quick peek at this
new top sponsor's website...
The Exact System I Use
To Make 2.3 Million Online!
Exposed Now.
OK, I'd like you to start off today's gazette by taking a quick
look over to the left sidebar. There you'll see direct proof
that affiliate marketing has gone through lots of changes over
the years.
Things like that material connection disclosure, privacy
policies, rules and regulations on testimonials, etc.,
have replaced the "anything goes" attitude of the past.
The 'wild west' days of the web are steadily fading into
oblivion, and frankly, I consider that mostly a good thing.
Sure, you'll still see your share of spam, wild income claims
and high-pressure get-rich quick sales tactics, but things are a
bit more respectable than
they used to be.
But the big question is this... with
all these changes, is
it still possible to earn big money as an affiliate marketer,
especially if you're new to the game?
I say Absolutely! -- If you know what you're doing.
Sure, the competition in many
niches such as mine, is really stiff. Yet there are still plenty
of small merchants like myself paying out thousands of dollars a
month to
our affiliates via clickbank, in-house programs and other
affiliate networks. And yes, there are plenty of affiliate
marketers and bloggers
earning a full time income from home.
The fact is, that
there are still a ton of undiscovered niches out there for
affiliates to cash in on. Affiliate marketing as a business strategy is certainly
still
viable and will be for many years to come.
After all, affiliate marketing still
has many advantages over many other online business models,
specifically...
-
You don't have to create products or
buy inventory.
-
Once you make a sale you're done --
the vendor supports the customer.
-
You can offer a wide product choice
in your niche by offering products from many different merchants.
-
Huge companies like
Walmart,,Target,
Sears and Barnes and Noble are now using affiliates to boost their bottom line,
with many more joining the fray.
So how does one go about making
money affiliate marketing on today's Internet?
It all starts with having a plan and
niche selection.
Below, I'll show
you how to do it right...

How To Get Started In Affiliate Marketing The Right Way...
The first step in planning your affiliate business is
choosing what market to work in. This is absolutely the most
crucial step. Do it right, and the sky's the limit. Fail here
and you'll waste countless hours with no payoff.
The first thing you need to know is that it's important to
focus on ONE niche. It takes work putting a new site or blog,
adding content and generating traffic, so working on just one
topic is the best strategy, at least until you have the project
earning money. Then you can consider expanding it or entering
another niche altogether.
What you'll need to get started:
You'll need a topic, a keyword rich domain name and a
topic-focused website or blog.
Start by choosing a niche topic that
fits these two criteria...
- Markets that have a lot of products and services
that people buy year after year. These are called
"evergreen" markets and they ensure long term viability of
your affiliate business.
- Markets that have a lot of products and services
that people need to buy whether they like it or not. An
example would be consumables, insurance, etc. Markets with lots of desperate and/or
impulsive buyers are even better.
When selecting the topic for your site or blog, try to find sub-niches within
those main target markets. This will help you get faster results,
since there will be less competition in many cases.
For
instance, when I started my
insurance related blog earlier this year I decided to focus
on one specific type of insurance, liability insurance for small
business and independent contractors. It's information that all
commercial enterprises need, and some basic keyword research showed me there
was a demand for such information.
While I decided to monetize the
blog using Adsense instead of affiliate links, I can easily
switch that or even combine affiliate links with the existing ads to
diversify my income. The point is, the market I chose was a
niche within a niche, which meant less competition and an easier
time getting
traffic. That basic blog has earned earned me $1,425.58 in
Adsense revenue over the last 4 months -- and growing fast.
Of course if your niche is too tightly targeted, it limits
your growth potential because there's only so many things you
can write about or recommend, plus your traffic potential will
be capped at how many people search for that specific topic.
Using my above example for instance, I could have gone with "IT
contractors insurance" as the niche. But that would have limited
the scope of my blog and would have been too tightly focused.
There are only so many things I could write about that topic,
and probably very few affiliate offers to promote. You always
want to leave room to expand on your business and write about
other directly related topics. Again, the time to
consider that is before you pick your domain and start your site
or blog.
Of course you do not want to go too wide, as targeting a
broader market means you're going to have a lot more competition
- therefore it will take more time and effort to get things
moving - but you're also going to have a lot more growth
opportunity because there is so much more you can cover. Had I
chosen simply "insurance" I would have been up against
some huge players and may never have gotten the top 10 rankings
I already enjoy.
I may eventually target simply "liability insurance" which is
a much broader market, but only in time. Growing a BIG affiliate
website or blog that gets a lot of traffic is simply a process.
You start with a targeted niche that is a sub-topic of a broader
market. That will help you get initial momentum. And if you
start with future growth in mind you are able to slowly expand
and add more sub-topics as you grow. This strategy is called
"backing in" to broad market one small sub-niche at a time.
You'll gradually build a presence in the overall market, and
start to grab more and
more of the people looking for answers. You do this by adding
content to your site or blog regularly
OK, this is getting lengthy. And I've really only scratched the surface in this issue.
The fact is, you
need to understand other crucial elements such as
merchant/vendor selection, how to get and use
content, monetizing your blogs and sites, getting website traffic, etc.
