In today's Internet Marketing Newsletter...
Are You Blog
Commenting?
One of the easiest
do-it-yourself strategies for generating more website traffic
and better search engine rankings is "blog commenting."
Today I want to share how to avoid the pitfalls, do it properly
and save time in the process.
Serious Income Requires Your Own Products
Here's the
secret resource being used by many of the gurus you know...
(They won't admit it, but more than likely,
they use this.)

Get Serious. Get Your Own Products.
Fact:
Your
website/blog can increase traffic simply by increasing the number of
webpages
that link to you.
In fact, the number of incoming links you have
to your site
is directly proportional to your search engine ranking. Get more
links than your competitors, and you can outrank them.
Of course there are other factors at work such
as onsite optimization, link diversity and more, which I
discussed in this
search engine ranking primer. But the number of incoming
links you can grow is extremely important.
Today I want to show you how blog commenting can
help.
If you think you know this already, don't jump to that
conclusion too quickly. Millions of people have it wrong. I
know, because with just two blogs in my portfolio, I've ignored
literally thousands of blog spam comments. Why are
people wasting their time commenting with spambots and
uneducated outsourcers?
Because shortcuts are always attractive. But
they are rarely effective.
So, let's talk about real, effective blog commenting.
Blog commenting really has two distinct actions involved.
1. The first task is to find individual blogs where
you can comment on posts.
"Do Follow" blogs are best since search engines will follow
your URL and give you some link "juice". But these blogs
can be difficult to find in many niches. So using an automation
tool can be helpful to find them, and I'll talk more about that in a
second.
2. The second task is to comment on posts at the
blogs you find.
I am a firm believer that you should always do your blog
commenting manually. While there are software programs you
can download for free or even buy, for blog comment automation,
using them to insert your actual comments is NOT recommended in
my opinion.
However, using a software program to find blogs for you and
"assist" you with your
commenting process can be effective if done properly.
OK, so let's talk about each of these tasks in a little more
detail.
One way to find blogs for commenting is to simply search at
Google's
Blog Search Engine.
If that does not yield enough results, you may want to try
some searches at the
Google Search Engine that look like this...
"your key phrase" + "leave a comment"
Example: If you want to find blogs about real estate license
tests you would search "real estate license test" +
"leave a comment". (Without the quotes.)
Another search string I've had success with is simply...
"your key phrase" + "blog"
Ex: If you want to find blogs for IT technicians, you would search "IT
technician" + "blog" or "Information technology" +
"blog" (again, without the quotes.)
When you're first starting out, this can seem like a time
consuming process. It gets easier after a little trial and error
and playing with different search terms.
If you are the automation type, I've experimented with a few
software tools that can find blogs for you, and found one in particular that works
pretty well. It is called Comment Kahuna.
(Remember though, this is not at spam tool. If you abuse it
you will get very little if any results. If you use it as I
describe below, you can save a little time growing a nice pool
of incoming blog links that will increase your traffic and your
search engine rankings.)
Comment Kahuna is a free tool that lets you enter a search
term related to your niche and find blogs that you can
comment on. It also can partially or fully automate your
commenting. This is where you need to use caution.
Comment Kahuna can pre-fill your name, url and email address for
you at each blog you want to comment at. This is a very useful
feature. Comment Kahuna can also pre-fill your comment if you
want it to, but I do NOT recommend you use that feature. Posting
the same comment over and over at different blogs is comment
span and it can be counterproductive. Manually posting
freshly authored, directly related comments works better than using
a generic
comment over and over.
Which leads me to the most important part of blog commenting
in my opinion... the actual comments you share.

There is really only one way to effectively
comment on blogs, and it goes like this...
1. Once you've located a blog in your niche,
browse the posts and find one you can comment intelligently on.
2. Post a comment that starts off by mentioning
the blogger's name, or at least something about their post that
you're commenting on. (That way he/she will know for sure you
are a real person and not a spambot.)
3. Add value. A comment such as "Awesome post,
man! Thanks!" does nothing and makes it look like you're simply
trying to get a link back to your site. It's OK to complement them on their
post, but add value in addition to that.
For example, a comment such as this has a far
better chance of getting through a moderator: "Excellent post,
Dave. I'd like to add one more safety tip you may have
overlooked. When backing equipment up in crowded areas, a
spotter can be the difference between routine safety and
disaster."
4. Refrain from the temptation of adding
hyperlinks to your actual comments. More likely than not, live
links in the body of your comment will cause it to be discarded
as spam. Simply enter the URL of your website in the field
provided for that, and that will serve as your link.
In closing...
Now that you know what blog commenting is and
how to do it correctly, I suggest you set aside a few minutes
each day to comment on a blog or two in your niche. You may be
surprised at how far a few intelligent comments a day can take
you.
