Ad-aware
Last week my browser was hijacked. Maybe this has happened to you. When I opened my browser I was directed to a new home page I had not set. Worse, when I went to change it back to the proper site, the option was greyed out. Nasty, eh? Thankfully, Ad-aware came to the rescue. With its ability to scan your memory, registry, and drives for aggressive advertising and tracking components, Ad-aware provides you with more privacy when surfing the web. And to my relief, it detects and removes the worst that the Internet and shareware/freeware have to offer. If you don't need it yet, you will eventually. Save that web address.


Spamnix
Finding a good spam filter was quite a chore. And believe me, I tried quite a few. Most filters block too much legitimate email. Others are too slow or clumsy. But I did finally settle on a tool called Spamnix. It works seamlessly with my Eudora email program and it is fully customizable. Of all the tools I've tried, Spamnix filters the most junk while accidentally grabbing legitimate email less than 1% of the time. I get 1200+ junk emails a day now, and Spamnix saves me more than an hour every day. And since it resides on my own system, I control how it works. If you use Eudora to manage your email and you need a spam solution, you cannot do better than Spamnix. (If you are an Outlook user, SpamBully is a top choice.)


Google Toolbar
The Google Toolbar enables you to search the web while you are at any site. It also lets you block unwanted pop-up ads, auto-fill web forms and more. For webmasters, the toolbar lets you see PageRank of pages you visit™ PageRank is the importance Google assigns to a page, based on the link structure of the web and many other variables. The toolbar also gives you access to more information about pages you view, including similar Pages, backward Links, and translation. It could be the best no-cost download on the web.

WebWeaver EZ
Web Weaver EZ is a free WYSIWYG Web page editor for Windows. No need to fool around with HTML code to create professional looking Web pages. Web Weaver EZ allows you to create your Web pages without knowing a thing about HTML. I recommend this tool to many newcomers. It's quite powerful and the price can't be beat. ;-)


ScreenPrint32
ScreenPrint32 allows you to print and/or capture to disk or clipboard, the full desktop, active window, predefined area, or user selected area of the screen. It's very useful when compiling tutorials or web lessons. It lets you capture a screen area and paste directly into your documents. The resulting images may be saved to either GIF, BMP, JPG or PNG formats.


AuctionSentry
Whether you are a buyer or a seller, this online auction tool can streamline and automate the transactions you make through eBay auctions. Auction Sentry automates bidding by placing your bid as close to the end of the auction as possible (referred to as "sniping"). The intuitive interface displays your auctions in a color-coded grid, indicating which auctions you are winning, which you have been out-bid on, and which you have set up a snipe bid for. Auction Sentry tracks all auctions and can be configured to alert you when an auction you are tracking receives a bid. Definitely worth downloading if you frequent Ebay like I do!
