"Publish
or Perish"
By Charlie Page
It's a rare occasion when I run a
guest article in the gazette. But today's article by Charlie
Page drives home a point I've been writing about for years...
Publish or Perish.
It really is that simple.

Freedom, Balance and a
Six-Figure income
Imagine a job in which you set your own hours, and live
wherever you please: at the beach, in the mountains, in an
apartment in Paris, London, or Berlin. As a copywriter, you
can. I know. I spend my summers "working" in 14th century
chateau in France.

As we charge headlong into the
second quarter of 2005, many people are remarking that they
simply don't know what to do to succeed online.
What they were told would work (much of it hype) has not worked.
And they can tell that it will not work ... ever.
So ... if joining programs, placing free ads, and promoting
pre-built affiliate sites doesn't work, what DOES work online?
Based on about five years online, speaking with countless
customers, and watching what the gurus really DO, and not what
they say, I can tell you that there is one skill that is needed
online. It's a skill not enough people tackle, let alone
embrace. It's the ability to PUBLISH...
Publish Or Perish
There are very few universal truths online. Here's one. If you
are not publishing, you won't make it.
The Internet is a communications medium, and you have to
communicate to get people to take action, whether that action is
buying something, joining your business, downloading your
report, etc.
Publishing can take many forms, including...
· Ezines · EBooks · Reports · Websites with updated content ·
Blogs · Forums · Email follow up series · And more
The hard truth is this: If you are not publishing using at least
one of these methods, you probably won't succeed.
The good news is that you don't have to be a professional writer
to publish. In fact, some of the most successful people I know
online are NOT great writers, but are great communicators.
The key is to let your voice be heard. If you could tell your
neighbor why they should do or buy what you are promoting (and
we're all promoting something) then you have what it takes to
publish. All you need to do is put on paper the words that would
come out of your mouth.
Be it with a blog, a website, a newsletter, or something
completely different, let your voice be heard and tell the world
why they should do business with you...

Follow Up
The case for following up with visitors who don't buy is a
simple one, yet MOST people miss this.
If your site is wildly successful, it will convert less than 10%
of visitors to buyers. With so many sites on the web, the odds
of someone remembering to return and give you a second look are
slim, at best. You must remind visitors to return, learn more,
and buy. And that, whether you do it with email, RSS, a blog, or
smoke-signals, is follow up.
If your site is selling now, it will sell more with follow up. I
have never seen this technique fail.
I've written a
short report giving the exact step by step process anyone
can use to create a follow up system for their site. I consider
this to be my best and most important report.
See The Big Picture
Very few people succeed with one idea or one website. Again, not
many people are saying this today. Robert Allen said it
brilliantly in his often quoted book "Multiple Streams of
Internet Income". It's a real book that you can buy at a real
bookstore, and still the best thing I've ever read about doing
business online.
This book should be on everyone's shelf, and the information
contained within it burned into our brains. If you want to
succeed online, get this book and do what it says.
Bottom line; realize that very few people make a full time
living with one product or one site, but rather with several
products or sites.
While skills like getting traffic, search engine positioning,
and more are important, they are not more important than some of
the less-than-obvious skills that too few people talk about.
If you simply publish and follow up with visitors to your site,
you will be doing more than 90% of your competitors online.
Doing these things shifts the balance of power toward you, and
allows you to leverage your time in ways that create more effort
with less work.
And that is a beautiful thing indeed!
