A lmost every day I
receive an invitation to a new community online.
From PartnerUp.com to Ryze.com to linkedin.com there are business related communities popping up
everywhere.
As each one of these busy networks has blossomed, their members
have connected with more and more new customers.
For free.
And it's not just customers you locate
there. It's joint venture partners, affiliates, employees and
more.
Small and large businesses alike are using these networks to promote their brands. In fact, many
companies have
even started hiring people to post on those communities in
support of their products and services. Sneaky eh?
Even if you've already started
"working the communities" chances are, you are not getting
even 1% of the traffic you could be getting from these networks.
Here's a simple two-step plan for
using social networks to generate more income...
Step 1: Register at as many social networks as
possible.
Start joining as many social networking sites as you can.
There are networks available in a wide range of areas.
Here's an
extensive list of social networks so you can get started.
Once you've picked out the sites you want to join, you simply
start creating profiles and adding your website url. This
initial step can actually start the flow of traffic these sites generate.
Of course you'll have to start participating as well (more on
this in step 2) but even if you may not be ready to participate at social networking
sites, it is important to at least register at as many as
possible, as soon as possible.
Here's why:
Once a name has been taken in a social network site, you can't
claim it anymore. It is similar to domain names.
By claiming your name now, you are protecting your brand, your
name and making sure that you are prepared to do business for
years to come.
The only problem you may run into is the time factor. It takes
time to sign up at all the available networks. If time
constraints are an issue for you, try this tool:
http://community.adlandpro.com/SocialNetworks.aspx
That service automatically signs you up for multiple networks at
once saving you a few weeks of signup work.
That's pretty much all there is to step one. Get signed up!
Once you're signed up for at least a dozen networks, there's just one more thing you need to
do. I'll share that in step 2, right after this quick
sponsor message from yours truly...

Step 2: Start participating!
Unfortunately, simply registering at multiple social networks is
not enough. Sure, you can get SOME traffic from this step, but
to get the REAL traffic, you need to start getting involved.
Post questions and helpful content and include your URL (and a
gift offer) in your signature. Your goal should be simply to
leave a good impression with a legitimate effort to help people.
Do that consistently and your best potential prospects will start
taking notice.
It may sound simplistic, but it is a fact: Involving yourself in
these communities with quality posts and comments will get
people to notice what you have. Taking time to post comments on
another member's forum or profile occasionally will show you are
a real person.
Don't make the mistake that most people make and place ADS. That
shows you have no interest in the community other than making
money. Other members will see right through this and you'll be
sabotaging your efforts.
So how often should you get involved?
As often as you can! I realize you can eat up a lot of time
doing this, so decide how much time you have and set a schedule.
If you can make a helpful post at least once a week on the
busiest networks you belong to, you'll see progress.
Some people actually outsource this task to others which can
multiply your efforts without costing you additional time.
It's all about making connections. That is what these networks
are about. Find others with similar interests and businesses
that compliment yours and share tips with them. Even a handful
of alliances with other webmasters and list owners can literally
double your traffic and sales.
Sure, this
is a strategy that takes time, but remember, it costs nothing.
So if your marketing budget is too small for expensive and
unreliable PPC advertising, this is how and where you should be
promoting your business.
That's it for today's gazette. I'll talk with ya in a few weeks.
