Accepting Payment From Your Customers

A brief study on accepting payments on the internet:

Savvy marketers realize the importance of offering many payment methods to their prospective customers. On the net there are more options available than anywhere else. The fact is, if you offer limited payment options, you limit profits!

Below are the payment methods you should seriously consider offering.

* Check/Money Order by mail. Obvious right? Hold on a second. Does your bank accept international money orders? You should check into it. Your customer base is now international!

* Major Credit Cards. Do you have a merchant account so you can accept Visa and Mastercard? There was a time when getting a merchant account was nearly impossible for new and home based businesses. Local banks would chuckle as they asked you to produce a library of business documentation.

Thanks to the internet, those days are gone forever. Although many processors still charge over $1000, it is now possible to get set up for about half that, or even by paying low monthly installments. Getting approved is no longer difficult either.  Recommendation

Processing credit card transactions is very simple and most businesses report an increase in profits of nearly 50 percent in the first month! It not only gives your customers another payment option, it immediately gives your business more of an "established" presence.

* Digital Cash. There are now many companies involved in the development and implementation of "digital cash" systems for collecting payments over the internet. The following web site is a great place to start investigating, http://wwwopt.etd.ornl.gov/sites010.htm.

Here's an important tip. No matter what payment options you decide to offer your customers, it is imperative that you make the actual ordering experience as simple as possible. Ask only for pertinent information on your order forms! If you cannot fill out the pertinent details in less than a minute, it's probably too long.
