10 Reliable
Internet Income Sources
If you've had trouble opening up just one income stream, you're
probably sick of all the gurus talking about multiple
income streams. But there really are 10 different income streams
that work reliably. I know because I use 9 of them.
In today's gazette I'll show you what they
are, and how to open each one up.

Y ou're about to see 10
separate income streams. Of the 10, I use 9 and plan to use the
other one this year. When you combine even a handful of these, they add up to a nice
full time income. And there's nothing like earning full
time income from a part time job.
All you need to open up any of the
following income streams, is one or more websites or a blogs where you
regularly post content about a specific topic. You can get your
own web property up and running in less than an hour using the
freely available hosted version of WordPress at WordPress.org.
And the whole process is dirt cheap. The only things you need to pay for
are a domain name for about $8 a year, and a web hosting account
which is less than $10 a month.
If you're starting from scratch, it
will take a little time, but once you've posted about 20 pieces
of niche specific content, you'll start to get some "long tail"
traffic from the search engines.
Then you can start monetizing your
web property using any one of the following 10 methods, or a
combination of them...
1. Affiliate Commissions
Affiliate earn a commission from
product or services they recommend. Affiliate marketing has been around
for about 12 years now and it has changed quite a bit through
the years. Review sites were popular for a while until Google
Panda knocked most of those site, especially the sites with thin
content, down the SERPS.
I earn most of my affiliate income
at this site and by recommending products and services through
my opt-in email lists. This strategy has always worked well, though
it's much harder to get though the myriad of spam filters
nowadays than it was say, 5 years ago.
The newest trend in affiliate
marketing looks like it may be the strategy of implementing
WordPress plugins and shopping gadgets such as
Michael Rasmussen's affiliate tool scheduled for release on
January 24, 2012. (Oh, and as you may have figured, that's an
affiliate link.)
2. Residual Affiliate Income
If you're going to get into
affiliate marketing, you need to always be on the lookout for
opportunities to earn residual income. Residual affiliate income
is money you earn over and over after making an initial sale.
For instance, many of my own affiliates for my coaching program
have earned more than $500 from a single sale. That's because
my affiliate program for that service pays recurring
commissions.
In addition to paying my affiliate
residual income, I also promote
products and services for marketers who pay me residual
income. See that ad over in the right side bar that contains the
text "This ad created with the
Amazing Widget?" That's a program from Bryan Winters that I
use to get a steady flow of traffic. I also refer members to it
so they can get traffic from it. In return, I earn a small monthly
commission from each member I refer, for as long as they stay a
member.
If you plug a handful of residual
affiliate programs into your portfolio, you'll build a nice base
of commissions that will hold steady, even through slow times.
3. Your Own Product Sales
Putting together a product of your
own can seem like a daunting task. But it doesn't have to be. If
you can commit to writing even for just 30-45 minutes a day, you can have
your own ebook in a month or so. The best part is that you do
the work once, then
sell it over and over and earn money from it for years.
Having your own products has another built-in benefit that can
pay huge dividends -- you can open your own affiliate program
and get others promoting for you. This strategy ballooned my
business way back in the late 1990's and basically enabled me to
quit my day job. With just three products I paid out more than $250,000 to affiliates, so
that's a lot of income I never would have made without them.
If setting up and running an
affiliate program seems like a lot of work, you can simplify the
process by using a service like clickbank. They take care of the whole process
including taking your orders via credit card or paypal, handling refunds
and even
paying the affiliate commissions.
4. PLR Product Sales
It may surprise you to learn that
many of the products you've bought from gurus were simply
products they bought the rights to, then tweaked as their own.
Anyone can do this including you. There's nothing underhanded
about it as long as you're offering solid content at a fair
price. If you're want to sell products of your own but you do
not have the time required to create them, then this is a good
option.
Once of the places lots of web
publishers get products to customize and sell as their own is
this
plr product vault. In fact, it is used by many of the gurus
I know. I've even used it myself with excellent results. Members get access to more
than 1,000 products in all sorts of niches. The products can be
used to monetize websites and blogs in different niches, and you
can even start your own affiliate program with many of the
products.
A good strategy for selling PLR
products is to offer a product for less than $10 then when the
sale is made, immediately offer an upsell for a larger product
or membership. A percentage of customers will always buy the upsell and even the customers who stick with the basic product
get a great value for their $7 or whatever you decide to charge.
Plus, you get to build a super-responsive "buyers list" that you
can sell other products and services to.
5. Web
Services
Performing web services for clients
such as website or blog setup can be lucrative, although
sometimes time consuming. A popular service these days is link
building for SEO. But instead of focusing online for clients, a
better strategy a lot of people
overlook is offering their services locally.
I've done SEO work for clients
offline who almost always refer new clients to me. In fact, I've
had to turn away clients because of just a few jobs that got
sites to the top of Google. You can charge quite a bit of money
for this and it's easier than you think, especially in many
local niches with little competition. There are other services
you can offer local businesses as well, including blog setup,
graphics design, link building, directory submissions and more.
If you want to try selling web
services locally, you don't even need a website. You can simply
place an ad in Craigslist under small business services. After
placing your ad, here's a trick for getting the ad to
the top of Google for the keyword search phrase "your area + your
service." (Ex: Fairfax blog design)
Create a craigslist ad.
Create an RSS feed using the URL of your ad. Then submit the
URL of the ad along with the RSS feed using the freely available
Traffic Launch Pad. I tried this with an ad for a local
service and a week later it was ranked number one and I started
getting calls. Of course it all depends on how much competition
there is for the service you're offering in your area.

affiliate marketers in 2012. ~ Jim Daniels
6. Membership Revenue
I think everyone doing business online should have at least one
membership based site. Take the niche you enjoy working in most
and load up as much great content as you can into a private area
of your site or blog. Include personal help or coaching for your
members. You don't have to charge a lot. Even a $20 a month
membership with 100 members will net you a nice $2,000 a month
revenue stream.
If you're worried about the support it requires, you may be
surprised at how little time it actually takes once you have
everything set up. If you're using WordPress, a great plugin for
member sites is
called
S2 Member. They offer a free version as well as premium
versions. It makes setting up a member site easy, and you can
collect payments via paypal.
Another great bonus you get with your own membership site is the
ability to offer residual income to affiliates who promote for you.
Give them 50% of the monthly dues for all the members they refer
and you can expand your program easily.
7. Licensing Your Products
Licensing is a huge money maker for many content publishers. You
basically take a collection of your products and bundle them
into either a membership site or a downloadble PLR package and sell it to
others who need their own content. Along with the content you include the
rights such as private label, resale rights, giveaway rights,
master rights, etc.
If you decide to try this strategy, you should limit the
availability of your licenses by selling either a set number of packages
or by only opening the offer a few times a year as I do at my
Guru-U.biz site.
8. Ad Sales
Once you have a steady stream of traffic in place, an easy way
to monetize your site or blog is to sell ad space. I sell a
variety of ad space at this site and it provides a steady stream
of income. While I do it manually, there are lots of scripts you
can use to automate things if you want.
If you use WordPress as your blog platform, a great plugin for
selling banner ads is called
Komoona and it is free. It basically puts a self-service ad
marketplace at your blog and you collect the payments via paypal.
If Komoona does not suit your needs, there are a variety of
similar plugins available for WordPress and many of them are
also free.
9. Adsense Commissions
Adsense is Google's program that pays web publishers to show ads
for their Adwords clients.
This is a nice passive way to monetize a site or blog. I've used
Adsense on this site in the past and seen single day profits of
as much as $80. But I found that Adsense ads get much better
clickthrough rates on sites that are not in the Internet
marketing niche.
I have been expanding my use of Adsense on my blogs in other
business related niches such as finance and insurance. I've
found that there are many niches where advertisers will pay a
lot of money per click. In fact, I've had single clicks in the
insurance niche that have paid me more than $20.
If you're going to use Adsense to monetize a site, I suggest you
use a tool such as
Spyfu to do a little keyword research first. There you
can type in a keyword or keyword phrase and find out how many
advertisers bid on it, how many times a day it gets searched,
and how much the advertisers are paying for each click. If you
show Adsense ads at your site, you'll get 68% of the cost per
click in the content network. Just remember, the cost per click
numbers you see at Spyfu.com are best case scenario, and the
clicks at your site or blog will likely average quite a bit less
than those shown there.
One note about monetizing with Adsense: A
Jan. 19, 2012 algorithm change from Google now affects sites
with ads "above the fold". Lots of sites and blogs without
enough content above the fold lost some ranking including a few
of my blogs. Not a difficult fix, but something you should be
aware of when monetizing with Adsense.
10. Flipping Sites
This is the one income stream I have not used to date, though I
plan to use it this year. I've recently built a variety of niche blogs that I've been monetizing via a handful of the above
strategies. This year I plan to sell a few of the blogs at
Flippa.com.
Flippa.com is an auction site for websites and blogs.
Blogs typically sell for about 15x monthly earnings. While I'll probably keep
most of my busier, business related blogs and sites, I plan to sell
off a few of the less focused blogs with lower earnings.
For instance, I built a little blog at
ForkliftCertificationGuide.org where I share information on
forklift training and certification. (I was a forklift operator
some 25 years ago and I thought it may be fun to write about
it.) I monetize that blog with Adsense and it's earning close to $300 a month
now, so I figure it should fetch somewhere in
the neighborhood of $5,000 at auction.
As you can see, building up different web properties in a
variety of niches, then monetizing them via different strategies
can be quite lucrative. It gives you the option of sitting back
and collecting income, or selling off properties for larger
chunks of cash whenever you want.
See ya in a few
weeks...
